The figurine is by a renowned animal sculptor, who became known as a chrestomatic author of animal figurines while working at the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory producing small plastic figurines and paintings on tableware. Boris Vorobyov elevated the animal representations to a much higher level within the permissible guidelines of socialist realism.

As the factory stamp indicates, this is one of the early editions of this model.

The figurine illustrates Ivan Krylov's fable “The Wolf and the Crane” (Волк и Журавль), which deals with the idea of moderation and gratitude.
