One of the early examples of decorative paintings of Latvian national themes by artist Vilis Vasariņs, executed by the experienced painter Aleksandrs Šļepņovs. It was produced in the Kuznetsov porcelain factory in the interwar period, around the 1930s, at the beginning of the factory's partnership with Latvian artists.

Latvian national paintings on faience objects are quite rare.

Vilis Vasariņš (1906-1945) studied painting and ceramics at the Art Academy of Latvia at the Ceramics Workshop (1933) led by Rūdolfs Pelše.

Vilis Vasariņš' works at the Kuznetsov factory can be divided into two categories. The first - detailed, artistically high quality, somewhat Art Déco style paintings for exclusive decorative objects, dominated by figurative compositions of Latvian national themes, represented by the featured object. The second is the distinctly different clay objects of original forms, which, according to Vasariņš himself, play a central role in his oeuvre. The artist favours a palette of cool tones.
