Slip cast porcelain; overglaze painting, gilding
A small provincial amateur orchestra from Odessa (Ukraine) depicted in the medium of small-form porcelain sculpture.
The masterful depiction of the artist laconically and sincerely expresses the unique character and mood of each character’s mentality. The figures are hand-painted. The set consists of 5 figures: Trumpeter, Saxophonist, Drummer, Banjo Player and Double Bass Player. The set is a relatively rare, small-run product in factory, a hrestomatic example of Ukrainian small-form porcelain sculpture – produced at the Polony Art Ceramics Factory (Ukrainian SSR), which is famous for production of unique, artistic porcelain figurines.
Set’s design authors – Valery Albul (form) and his wife Natalya Albula (decor) (Валерій та Наталья Албули) – are bright artistic representatives of this factory in the 1970s–80s.
It is possible to purchase each figure separately, or all together as a set.
